Who can ask the foundation for help?

Accepted Answer

Kiss Csillag Public Benefit Foundation helps families in lasting or temporary hardship in the Southern Great Plain — around Deszk and Szeged. Besides individuals, health visitors, family support workers, teachers and social workers can also turn to us. If you are unsure whether our help is meant for you, write to us — we will look at it together.

What can you ask the foundation for?

Accepted Answer

We do not think in ready-made parcels: we try to give what a given family actually needs. In-kind donations already in the warehouse — clothes, furniture, food, household items — we can usually help with more quickly; if something is not in stock, we try to organise a targeted collection, which takes more time.

How can I ask for help?

Accepted Answer

Reach us through the contact form, on Facebook, or through a local health visitor, family support worker, or hospital or institutional social worker. When help begins, we meet the family in person and talk about the situation — this is only for our own work, so we know what is really needed. Although we work with health visitors and child-welfare colleagues, we never start an official procedure — they bring to our attention the families where our help may be needed.

Can I ask the foundation for money?

Accepted Answer

No. Unfortunately we cannot give cash support for living costs — rent, utilities, or settling debts. We put general-purpose cash gifts toward operations, so we have no separate budget for this. A few times a year we join another organisation’s cash collection. If you need in-kind help, we are glad to look at that: clothes, food, furniture, or a one-off gift.

Where can I take an in-kind donation?

After arranging it in advance, to our central warehouse in Deszk, or to one of the standing drop-off points listed on this page. Locations for one-off collections are always announced when the collection is published. Drop-off points accept donations during that shop’s opening hours, so it is worth checking the hours beforehand.

What condition of items do you accept?

Accepted Answer

We only ask for things you would still gladly wear or use yourself. Someone who has fallen on hard times still wants clean, decent, usable belongings, just like anyone else. We accept clothing clean and in season; for furniture and appliances, the point is that they work as intended. Items brought on a “maybe someone can still use it” basis are ones we cannot find a dignified home for either.

What is in the foundation’s warehouse?

When a donor wants to offer something, we immediately consider whether there is a family we know who would need it. If we are not aware of one, we sort it and place it in our warehouse. We collect non-perishable food all year; we usually distribute it quickly, so there is not always stock in the warehouse. Typical groups we hold: used clothes and shoes, furniture, laundry and hygiene products, children’s toys, books and stationery, medical aids, baby-care products and tools, car accessories for babies and toddlers, small and large household appliances, bicycles.

How can I help the foundation’s work?

With an in-kind donation, a bank transfer, offering 1% of your tax, volunteer time, or a company partnership. No help is too small. We describe the ways on our Support page — if you are unsure which fits you, write to us.

Who is behind the foundation?

Accepted Answer

The founder and chair of the board is Kiss-Hanzsa Eugénia. The work is now helped by nearly thirty volunteers — beside their day jobs, from their free time — because we believe that with people coming together, you can always try.

Question 10

Where does the foundation get money to operate?

Accepted Answer

The founder’s personal contribution started and still covers day-to-day operations (renting and running the warehouse, and keeping a car). In every other case we fund expenses from grants and donor gifts. From the 2023 filing period our foundation reached public-benefit status, so we are also eligible for the 1% of tax that can be offered to civil organisations. Successful grants so far have gone toward making operations easier — warehouse development, our visual identity, and for a period two part-time warehouse colleagues — so that help can reach more families.

How can we know what the foundation spends on?

We operate transparently: we meet the bookkeeping rules, and since we were established we have an annual report for every closed year.

Do I have to fill anything in if I want to get in touch?

Accepted Answer

Not for the first step. Write via the form or on Facebook — from then on we will get in touch. When help or a donation actually begins, we ask for a short declaration: recipients about data handling and photo use, donors about whether they wish to stay anonymous. Institutions need a separate institutional declaration.
